UPCOMING MISSION TRIPS
Angkor Hospital for Children
Siem Reap, Cambodia
January 2 - 9, 2010:
Surgical Friends Foundation is planning a mission trip to Cambodia early next year to perform life-altering operations on some of the country’s young land mine victims who now live with physical deformities. After 20 years of war, one out of every 290 Cambodians is living with a deformity as a direct result of the numerous land mines plaguing their landscape. This is one of the highest ratios in the world. One would think that with such a high number of landmine victims they would be recognized and acknowledged by society with some compassion and grace. Not only is this not the case, it is vastly the opposite.
Surgical Friends Foundation will be working in association with Angkor Hospital for Children, a leading pediatric hospital providing free healthcare to the children of Cambodia. AHC is sponsored by the non-profit Friends Without a Border, and since opening in 1999, AHC has provided nearly three quarters of a million treatments to needy children. For more information visit Angkor Hospital for Children.
Surgical Friends mission objective in Cambodia is to provide more than 30 victims of landmines with reconstructive surgery by a team of skilled surgeons over the course of five short days. The trip is leverage with the support of Friends Without a Border who will cover the cost to the local Hospital, Supplies and Staff. The local team will ensure that over the course of their stay the most serious cases are evaluated and provided with the necessary surgery and aftercare. During the trip great care and intention is given to training Cambodia’s medical team, and to remain a resource to them, establishing a life-long relationship. Ultimately these young victims will have better access to quality care and skilled volunteer reconstructive surgeons as a direct result of the trip and the physician training and support.

April 3 – 11, 2010
